Some foreign governments who have a diplomatic presence in Australia may engage in activities that seek to limit your free participation and expression in Australian society. 

The Australian Government takes inappropriate behaviour from diplomats very seriously. 

Foreign governments can seek to advance their interests in Australia in a way that is open, transparent and respectful of our people, society and democratic systems. 

It is not OK for foreign government representatives to monitor, harass or intimidate people in Australia or force an individual to advance foreign government interests here.  

If you have concerns regarding inappropriate behaviour of diplomatic or consular officials in Australia, you can report this to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Protocol Branch at protocol.branch@dfat.gov.au.
